Let’s face it – the struggle to figure out how best to store the kids’ toys, while maintaining some semblance adults live here too is real. Storage bins are certainly not a new concept, but finding a storage solution that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing is not an easy task.
In our living room/playroom area, a built-in window bench with drawers would have looked great in our bay window. But that’s not in the cards right now, so I went on a mission to create that look. When it all came together, I like it better than a built-in given portability of the toy boxes and the hard top – which has turned into a great make-shift play table, airplane runway, and highway.
ToP FINDS – IKEA KALLAX HACKS
For the search, I focused on bins with handles for easy in/out of the kids, and my boys also love they can pull the toy boxes around by the handles.
Best of all – all three options use the IKEA Kallax ($47) shelving unit to help keep cost down. We chose #1 below from the Magnolia Hearth & Hand Collection at Target. Unfortunately, it is no longer available, but this new 2023 faux leather storage bin release from Target has a very similar look and feel and is super cute!

I’ve included some additional beautiful and effective options below. Also check out my most recent post here on more toy storage picks!

Love this post? You can find my latest toy storage post here with some updated options. If you like the leather look , I’m also loving this leather book/magazine holder from the Target collection with Studio McGee. We use these to help store some of our favorite kids books. Photo below, so pretty!

I’ve also included a couple Benjamin Moore paint options if you want to take your IKEA Kallax hack a step further! I love the contrast of the Hale Navy paint against the white and tan leather bin, as well as Goodwin Green with the light Seagrass Basket.
